“I try to put myself in the patient’s position, sometimes they may want to try medications first before surgery, but sometimes you don’t have that option and surgery is the best course.”

Dr. John Casterline earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Wichita State University before attending the University of Kansas, School of Medicine. After graduation from medical school 1988, he served as a resident in general surgery for one year at the University of Kansas - Whichita. He then moved to Birmingham, where he completed his Residency and Post Doctorate Fellowship in Cardiothoracic and Endovascular Surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Dr. Casterline is board certified by The American Board of Surgery and The American Board of Thoracic Surgery.

In addition to being a partner of Cardio Thoracic Surgeons, Dr. Casterline is a member of the American Medical Association, the Medical Association of the State of Alabama, Society of Thoracic Surgeons and the Jefferson County Medical Society. He is a member of the medical staff at Grandview Medical Center.
