Dr. John Thurber is a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon with over 20 years experience in his specialty. He graduated from the Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana, and served in the United States Navy Medical Corps, retiring from the Navy after serving as Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Bethesda, Maryland. He received training in general surgery at the National Naval Medical Center Bethesda, and then in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Dr. Thurber provides professional and compassionate care to adult patients with a full range of cardiac and thoracic diseases, including heart valve and coronary artery disease, lung cancer, chest tumors, and aortic aneurysm repair.

He has a special interest in minimally invasive mitral valve repair and aortic valve replacement, corrective surgery for atrial fibrillation, and robotic lung cancer surgery. He is committed to a Heart Team approach to the care of his patients in order to best serve the individual patient with the best treatment possible.

Outside of the office, Dr. Thurber enjoys spending time with his family, physical conditioning, and outdoor activities including fishing, golfing and barbequing.
